Rosetta Stone Russian (Language Software)

Rosetta Stone Russian

Rosetta Stone Russian Introduction:

Do you want to learn a new language with the award-winning method used by the U.S. State Department to train diplomats? The Rosetta Stone approach, proven effective by NASA astronauts, Peace Corps volunteers, and millions of students worldwide, teaches new languages faster and easier than ever before.

We all learn our childhood language by associating new words and phrases with the world around us. The Rosetta Stone method replicates this process by presenting vivid, real-life images to convey the meaning of each new phrase. Instead of translating, memorizing, and studying rules of grammar, you actually learn to think in the new language. Vocabulary and grammar are integrated systematically, leading to everyday proficiency.

This comprehensive program provides up to 550 hours of mastery instruction in listening comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking. Systematic structure teaches vocabulary and grammar naturally, without lists or drills. Previews, exercises, and tests accompany every lesson, and there are automated tutorials throughout the program. Graphical speech recognition displays your voiceprint and compares it with the native speaker to help improve your pronunciation. (Ages 6 and older)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Learning Method, June 9, 2008
By  Terence J. Galvin (Cincinnati, OH USA)

I purchased level 3 after completing levels 1 and 2. This method is very effective. It is intuitive and fun. I am regularly complemented by native Russian speakers on my pronunciation. I am impressed how the various lessons build upon each other and reinforce learning. One great feature of Rosetta Stone is called Adaptive Recall. The program has a built in calendar that prompts you to review summaries of previous lessons on a regular basis.

Note to potential purchasers: There are no dictionaries or traditional text books included. I recommend that you buy are good dictionary and also a book such as 501 Russian Verbs. These will help you a lot as you proceed with Rosetta Stone.

Rosetta Stone Russian Level I, Personal Edition comes complete with an illustrated User's Guide and a Curriculum Text book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intuitive Learning, November 28, 2007
By  Sepideh Sanjideh "Sepideh" (San Jose, Ca.)

I have thoroughly enjoyed my Russian software so far...

I have completed only two lessons and I am amazed how much I have picked up and retained in such a short period of time.

The lessons progress and build on themselves in an intuitive yet logical manner doing away with any need for translation.

Looking forward to finishing both levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best learning method, March 23, 2008
By  Terence J. Galvin (Cincinnati, OH USA)

This is the only Russian language program I have ever actually looked forward to using. Is is a total experience of words, pictures, and learning by association, not just rules and memorization of vocabulary. The software is quite intelligent in its design and includes many reviews of material at predetermined times to reinforce learning.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Rosetta Stone, August 28, 2008
By  Barbara C.

My past history with foreign languages is not a pretty one. I have previously struggled to learn three languages with little success. Faced with the need to learn Russian, I thought it could never happen. Rosetta Stone truly is different. For example, they don't actually "teach" you anything. You develop your own vocabulary, grammar rules, etc. by observing what is going on in the pictures & looking for patterns. Ocassionally this was frustrating but that didn't usually last long & I felt a sense of accomplishment when I figured it out. A Russian-English dictionary is very helpful. By spending about an hour a day on Rosetta Stone, I feel as if I have learned quite a bit in about a month. You must have the time to dedicate to this regularly. My husband & I are both thrilled with our progress & strongly recommend Rosetta Stone - Russian.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Start, as Always, March 30, 2008
By  Hando Seward

I think Rosetta Stone is an excellent product, I have used the French and Russian and I find their method infinitely better than trying to memorize Russian words next to their meaning in your native tongue. I always thought I just couldn't learn languages but then I realized that the way I was attempting to learn was at fault and Rosetta Stone offers a great and logical alternative. Some people complain about Rosetta Stone not making you a master in the language it is teaching you but it is not supposed to. It gets you to where you can communicate well in that language and if you want to continue learning you can pick up a secondary school book of that language to get your grammar really squared away. I found Russian Rosetta Stone to be as good as the French, which is to say very good, fun and easy to use. After using my friend's I plan to buy it sometime next month. As for the first reviewer that is a completely ridiculous expectation of the software, and a completely ridiculous reason to give a product a poor rating and that review should be taken down in my opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for vocabulary, August 11, 2008
By  xxatti (Florida, USA)

Rosetta Stone is a good product for building vocabulary and even helping with pronunciation, but you won't get fluency from it. I don't think it's worth the price honestly. If you can get it for free, or if you have the money to spend on it, then it's a nice tool to add to your arsenal. But I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this product because it's just not enough by itself if you want to truly master a language. I think this is good for beginners, but once you reach the intermediate level you will need more than Rosetta Stone.

If you can't afford the Rosetta Stone products, then stick to the cheaper programs while watching movies, and listening to music and you'll get a much greater exposure to the language than Rosetta Stone will give you.
