About the Author
Larry C. Rios has always had a passion for writing, but his
greater passion has always been to share his knowledge of the Spanish

functional specifications that were coded by programmers and the operating
manuals for accounting systems he designed. Upon retirement from federal
service, as a budget officer, he pursued his passion by starting an

This is not a beginner book. All kinds of verb tenses are used without
explanation. Pronouns, possessive adjectives, word placement are not explained.
But for someone who already has studied those topics, it is an efficient way to
learn vocabulary relevant to conversations just beyond the basics. Vocabulary is
presented in complete sentences that use various constructions and verb tenses.
Sometimes the format is question and answer.

I agree with the other reviewer that the audio files really leave a lot to be
desired.... however, the pronunciation guide is excellent! So many books leave
out this very important step - yes, we need to hear Spanish pronounced correctly
(and the audio files are pretty decent for basic practice, really) but having a
phonetic spelling handy, the first time we see the word is a must. I'm thrilled
with the way he writes out the word - no long or short symbols, no dictionary
spellings, but simple sounds, with the stressed syllable in all caps. Excellent!
I'll be recommending this to the parents of my students who want to learn along
with their children.
Great organization, good amount of grammar points, and nice phrasing for an easy
approach that doesn't overwhelm.

I have never met a Que book I didn't like...until I bought this one. If you
don't need the audio support, by all means get this book. The book is a great,
fun introduction to conversational Spanish in an easy to read format. But, if
you need the audio support, choose another title. The audio support is not a
real person reading the text. It is a synthetic, computer generated voice. It is
interesting to listen to but I needed practice in speaking and oral
comprehension and a Latin computer voice just can't convey the ebb and flow, the
pitch and tone of the language. What a shame. This book would deserve 5 stars if
a real person had been hired to perform the audio. I took off 3 stars because
the audio clips are promoted page after page throughout the book and nowhere
does the author tell us that the audio clips are not an authentic human.
