The book is perfect! The size of the book is big and so makes it great for
learning. Labels are clear. Contains important things like naming body parts,
animals, colors, shapes and numbers, household items, stationary, toys, cars,
time, weather and seasons, fruits and vegetables, bathroom items, sports,
opposites, verbs and alot more! I am more than satisfied with this book and I
think that every beginner of spanish should own it!

This books is better than the rest because it includes actions, clearly depicted
with photographs of children doing things. But more than that, the way the
information is presented helps you learn - opposites (heavy/light, rough/smooth,
left/right) are presented together, which facilitates learning. My 15-month-old
daughter loves this book like no other because she never gets bored of it, there
are always new things to point at and words to hear. I love it because I learn
with her!

This is a great book to promote vocabulary buliding with young children. It has
real photos which makes it more realistic and easier to use and build background
knoledge. Kids love this book they engage in dialoge and adults use it to learn
a different language as well!

I highly recommend "My First Spanish Word Book". This book has GREAT pictures of
everyday items each one labeled in English and Spanish. A MUST HAVE for any
children (or adult) learning Spanish, or learning Spanish to English.

My nephew just loves this book! I find myself learning so much with her and it
supplies plenty of laughter. This book instills plenty of confidence as the
words are learned and new words are tried out. Plenty of fun.

my son liked the book. i wish it told you how to enunciate the words.

My native language is English, and I speak Spanish fairly well at a
conversational level. I am speaking Spanish to my young son so that he will be
bilingual. Much of my Spanish vocabulary is business- or government- related, so
I got this book to learn words for everyday things. When chosen for that
purpose, this book is wonderful. To give one example: beginning Spanish students
usually learn "camisa" for shirt and "pantalones" for pants. This book has two
large pages of words for specific articles of clothing (pajamas. shorts.
raincoat, sweatpants, etc.) As other reviewers have mentioned, the pictures are
outstanding and I'm sure my son will like looking at the pages when he's a
little order.
You do need a basic grasp of Spanish, and a good Spanish-English dictionary, to
use this book most effectively. It does not have a pronunciation guide, so you
need to be able to pronounce the words (which isn't hard, since Spanish reads
phonetically). Also, most of the words are nouns or verbs, so to really be able
to practice using them you need to know how to construct a simple sentence in
Spanish.
Be careful and check with a native Spanish speaker or with a dictionary if
something doesn't seem right. As another reviewer has mentioned, the usage in
this book seems to be South American (I would guess Mexican, but I'm not an
expert.) I've found a couple typos ("el peinilla", for example, which should
have been "la peinilla"). Also, it pays to check translations of unknown words
in a dictionary. For example, there is a picture of a beaded bracelet with the
English word "beads" and the Spanish word "pulsera". "pulsera" doesn't mean
beads, it means bracelet.

This is just the basics. Our son loves learning Spanish. He's 3 and I want to
encourage it. My old tapes are coming back to me from Jr. High and High School
Spanish. I'm able to help him with simple sentences using the words from this
book. He really likes the pictures. Some of the words are different than in
other versions. This can be a bit confusing. Not sure which is correct all of
the time, but it serves our purposes. We have two other versions of this
dictionary and cross reference. My son likes it because he knows it guarantees
more reading time with mom.

I bought this book to help me learn Spanish vocabulary and I like it a lot. The
pictures are very cute and it is also good to have the Spanish and the English.
The only problem I have is that some of the words are words that are no longer
used in Spain, or words that are only used in South America. If you are trying
to learn South American Spanish, then it is the perfect book for you, but if you
want to learn Spanish from Spain, then it is helpful if you have someone that
can go through the book and point out the words NOT to learn.

This word book is great! My son already knows more Spanish than I do, but I was
in search of a book to help with every day words and this book is great! I have
learned alot from it and the pictures are a plus too!

My toddler loves this book because of the photos of objects and children. Other
books I looked at had illustrations but were harder to understand. This one is
great!

EXCELLENT BOOK FOR KIDS EDUCATION, TO LEARN ENGLISH OR SPANISH

I use this book in all my Spanish classes, ages 3 to 18, to build vocabulary. It
has photos of items, so there's no guessing as to what the vocabulary is about -
it's large enough to hold at the front of the classroom (it's not a huge room,
but you get the idea) and point as we repeat the words and then to quiz the
students, or drill one at a time. A great resource to boost your child's
vocabulary or review items from a workbook or other program - the only drawback
is there's no phonetic spelling and no CD, so if you're not sure on
pronunciation, that may be something to think about.

Even after years of academic Spanish, I have turned to this book when at a loss
for a word. My kids love it and ask to read it all of the time! There is so much
in terms of photos and words that we usually just go through a few pages at a
time and leave a bookmark. It helps to know a bit about pronunciation since this
book doens't provide a "dummies" guide like the Dora englis/spanish books that
my kids also love. This is by far the most comprehensive that I have seen.
Excellent for the family room or coffee table!

Well, not so "little"! It's a thin book, but a full 10" x 13". Nice big pages
for lots of pictures!
Words are categorized so that all the words on the 2 pages in front of you are
related...body parts, things around the house, things at the grocery, etc. 30
different categories of words in all with over a 1,000 words total (check out
the table of contents). The pictures are outstanding. A very nice collection for
learning new spanish words.

Excellent resourses for easily learning Spanish through colorful illistrations.
Toddlers and older kids can benefit greatly from this book. As far as bilingual
books go, this one and Drum, Chavi, Drum!/Toca, Chavi, Toca! are the ones that
my children love most. When kids love a book and can't put it down, that's a
great sign that they will learn Spanish.

I used this book to help my daughter learn a multitude of words in English and
ASL signs when she was *very* young. Now that she's a preschooler, we're looking
at it again from the Spanish perspective. And even though I am fluent in
Spanish, I learned a *lot* of very specific vocaublary from this book (the names
of all different kinds of vehicles and tools, for instance). I would recommend
this book not only for parents of very young children, but also for students of
the Spanish language of *any* age, as a vocabulary builder. If I were teaching a
high school language class, I would want to copy pages out of this book, blank
out the names, and challenge students to label each picture. What a great
resource!!

This is a wonderfully colorful and fun book. My newborn is going to love
learning Spanish with this book, so will I! The photographs are of real things
-- not drawings, so children can relate directly to the words and pictures. It
is a large and sturdy hardcover so it will withstand tiny fingers turning from
page to page. If you buy only one book to introduce the language to your
youngster, make it this one.

This book has been my 2 year old daughter's favorite book for the last six
months. The pictures are engaging, and grouped in categories that make sense.
She's spent hours reviewing this large, well-made book. She's progressed from
being able to point to photos of things when asked, to saying the names of them
herself, or asking what the photo is. I've learned a lot of Spanish as well.

This book has really been a great teaching tool for my 2 year old. It is not
just an introduction to Spanish words, but is great for just learning to
recognize all kinds of new and everyday objects. We have been using this book
since my son was one and at first he would just point to the different objects
and name them in English he is just now beginning to recognize and say some of
the Spanish words. The pictures in the book are bright and interesting, each
page is packed full. The pictures are photographs not cartoons which make the
objects easier for children to recognize. We love it.

I love this book! I got this book for my 2 year-old, but I find that I am using
it myself. I wish I had this book when I was learning Spanish prior to my living
in Mexico. I am a visual person and this type of book is perfect for learning
vocabulary. I am buying this book for my 13 year-old nephew for his Spanish
class.

This book has high-quality photos of each word. Unlike other bilingual books,
the pictures are actual photos instead of drawn. Much easier for my child to
"get it". The English/Spanish are included next to each picture. Highly
recommended!

I was simply amazed at how well this book was done. Each word is depicted using
a high-quality, colorful, and eye catching photo and is captioned in both
Spanish and English. This book is excellent for very young children (and
children and adults of all ages) who are learning English and/or Spanish. It
covers everything from parts of the body, to actions (dancing, etc.), to
everyday household things. I highly recommend this book!
