Kids gobble cookies, blow bubbles, open
and close a box of dress-up items, even sit on the potty to
illustrate some of the 31 hand gestures taught throughout this excellent sign
language video. Much like a mini video "dictionary," teaching focuses on word
recognition alone--not the alphabet nor on full sentence structure--and covers a
smart variety of simple verbs and nouns (based on American Sign Language and
Signing Exact English). The format is simplistic but highly effective, and keeps
the action moving. After the word appears on-screen, an adult carefully signs
and pronounces it twice. Then, scenes flip open like book pages or spin like
revolving doors to reveal several real-life examples; for instance,
"grandfather" fishes with his grandson, eats cereal, and reads a book. More hand
gesture repetition, performed by a culturally diverse group of grownups and
kids, offers lots of practice time. Probably best used in the home or in a
hearing classroom, this visually and audibly appealing 40-minute show comes from
the folks who created Parent's Choice award-winning Baby's First Impressions

Didn't keep my child's attention, January 1, 2005
Compared to another Signing dvd this one did not keep my child's attention. I
kinda made me feel weird when the signer adults never even looked forward into
the camera. I would not suggest getting this dvd at all....I would suggest
another company...Signing Time.
Stinky Robot Signs!, December 22, 2004
This video is definitely NOT my favorite. As the mother of a hearing,
nonverbal child for whom Signing has been alife saver, let me tell you that this
video is dry, robotic and not terrifically helpful. My child wasn't interested
at all. We have other videos like Signing Time that are much better.

My two year old twins LOVE this video... and so do I!! We've all learned so
many signs... and we use them in our conversations. It is very educational, and

Talking Hands review, September 8, 2004
GWAEA brought this video out for us to watch with our (almost) 3 year old
son, who has a speech delay. Our son really enjoys this video and has learned
several of the signs! It has helped us to learn basic sign language and has
given him a way to communicate with us and others. --This
