Great Essential Chinese for Martial Arts, October 28, 2004

Reviewer: Laura De Giorgio "www.deeptrancenow.com" (Canada)

Chinese for the Martial Arts contains one audio tape with 5 lessons / sections and a booklet.

Vocabulary in this program is divided in several sections: formal greetings; names of forms and moves; martial arts schools and traditional concepts; body parts, injuries and asking for help; ranking names, animals, weapons and colors.

The words are written in English, in pinyin and in Chinese (traditional) characters.

There are few very basic usage / grammar notes.

Great for martial artists, February 26, 2001

Reviewer: N. Maclean "nomad" (silver spring, MD)

I am learning bagua and xingyi from a Chinese teacher from Shanghai who knows little English. This book has a ton of phrases and words I've heard him say many times but had no idea what they meant. Listening to the tape and reading the booklet has helped me in communicating better with him, and I think is a good start to learning Mandarin. This tape and booklet will not make you fluent in Mandarin, but will help any martial artists trying to learn basic chinese related to martial arts and be a good basis for further learning. I am very satisfied and think this is definitely worth the money.
