Miramar Airshow

I moved to San Diego in August this year. San Diego is a little bit cooler than Los Angeles, probably several degree lower. My living place is very close to the La Jolla cove, also very close to the USA navy air base in Miramar. There will have the annual airshow this weekend (Oct 14, 15, 16,2005). If you happen to live close to San Diego, I think you don't want to miss this free airshow. See

Hello from Los Angeles

Hi, I am here again... It is very hot here at Los Angeles. Every year from
late August to late September, the temperature in Los Angeles (LA) can rise up
to more than 30 degree Celsius - this is hot for Los Angeles since the
temperature is quite moderate for the rest of the year. The high temps are
usually from somewhere around 15 degree in winter to somewhere around 25 degree
in summer. Despite the hot outside, I still think that the weather in LA is the
best one I ever seen. Many people choose LA as the place for living just because
of its moderate climate. Needless to say, there are some other good things about
LA.

It is a year already

It is a whole year since I posted my last diary. Hope
that last year is a fruitful year for you (It is fruitful for me :-). I want to
thank every friend for your care and support. I also wish everyone can find
something useful here at lexiconer. I will be busy in the coming year. However,
I will try to keep this diary updated more frequently (other than once in a
year). Let's push everything forward...

Summer trip

Here are some photos that I want to share with you. The first one is , Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco Bay. The second one is , Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo Bay (If you watch Japanese dramas, I guess you may already know this bridge before). Both bridges are in connection with the Pacific Ocean, although they are very far away from each other -- it will take you around 11 hours if you fly from Tokyo to San Francisco (or visa versa). The third photo is some transgenic flies , which was taken when I visited a museum in San Francisco. I like this photo because I have a biological background. Although what I am doing now is on computer, but I think I am still a biologist deep inside me.

How is your life?

Hello, everyone. How is everything going? Last month is my travel month. I've visited five cities: Tokyo, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and San Francisco, two (Tokyo and San Francisco) of which I have not visited before. Someone told me before that it is good to visit an unknown place each year, to get fresh feeling, to know more about this world. I agree with this point and I think I will try to visit one new place each year --- there is a lot of places to be explored in this world.

Summer is coming

The summer has come to Los Angeles. It is still quite cool at night - that's
why I like the weather here - warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I got
some plans for this summer. The first thing is that I am going to add the Big5
display for the English-Chinese Dictionary. I've converted the whole database
from GB to Big5. What left to be done is the web interface to the database. The
second thing is not related to this dictionary though -- I am planning to have a
trip to Tokyo. I plan to live in Prince Hotel at Shinjuku. I remember there is
someone who is from Japan wrote me an email saying that he would be happy if he
could see me some day. I lost the email. But if you still want to see me, send
me an email again and we can make an arrangement. See you guys later and have
fun out there.

Spring recess is coming

Hi out there, long time no see. It rained a lot recently in Los Angeles (for almost two months), which let me doubt that I am in Los Angeles or in Hong Kong. They say that the rain season will end soon. The rain season will then be  followed by a nearly ten month no-rain season. Kind of weird, eh?

The University spring recess (one week) is coming soon. I am wondering where to go during the spring recess.

Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year, my friend! How is your New Year going? Have lots of fun? Have plenty of "Jiao(3)Zi"? I was born in South China. So I did not have "Jiao(3)Zi" in my childhood really. However, "Jiao(3)Zi" is a traditional Chinese food for Chinese New Year. If you live in Los Angeles, you can buy some from the Chinese stores "San Gabriel" or "Ranch" at Alhambra (the new China Town). You can also make it yourself. Usually it is more fun to make "Jiao(3)Zi" yourself, especially if you make it with your close friends, or with your family. All in all, have fun in the coming year!

Rains in Los Angeles

It rained today in Los Angeles. It seldom rains here. It was almost always sunny since I came here last summer. The climate here is almost as temperate as in Hong Kong. However, the difference is that it rains a lot a lot in Hong Kong. Sometimes it rains for several days continuously and it is very humid. And mold will grow on your leather belongings if you are not careful enough. Despite of the humidity in Hong Kong, many people enjoy living in Hong Kong because of its temperate climate and  other good things like delicious food, excellent entertainments, convenient public transportation, countless shops, clean environments, and so on.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year, my friend!

There was the 112th anniversary Rose Parade (linked removed, 2004-11-8) in Pasadena (one part of Los Angeles) this morning. I watched a small part of the Parade on the TV. It was amazing! I feel regretful that I did not drive there to watch it. It is said that some people decide to move to California after watching the Rose Parade - because people find out in the parade that it is so warm and sunny in California when most other parts of the United States are cold and even snowy.

Visit

Tang, Ge and Ren visited me tonight. I showed them my brand-new website. We had some casual talks. I tried to persuade them to use my dictionary :-).
